About Florida Beach Water Quality Monitoring
The Florida Department of Health Healthy Beaches Program tests water at public beaches across the state for enterococcus bacteria — the EPA-recommended indicator for recreational saltwater. Beaches are tested at least twice per month, with results typically available within 24–48 hours.
Each beach page on Safe to Swim Florida shows the latest test reading, a clear Good/Moderate/Poor status badge, a 12-month historical chart, and a risk rating based on the percentage of poor results over the past year. Learn more in our guide to bacteria testing and understanding advisories.
